How to manage fungal infection of the groin area in men?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have itching and redness in my groin area between the scrotum and thigh. Initially, there was a smell, but now it is gone. It started around a month ago. When I apply the cream, it helps a bit, but it is not going away. I have used Lobate GM. I had taken Fluconazole 150 milligrams for candida on the penis head before. My wife has this issue too.
Kindly help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understood your concern.
It appears to be intertrigo (candida fungal infection).
I suggest you follow these instructions:
Apply Candid cream (Clotrimazole) twice daily for two weeks.
Wash the area with Dersil AF wash (Ketoconazole)or Ketostar soap (Ketoconazole) for a bath for one month. Keep the area clean and dry.
Avoid moisture, as moisture favors fungal growth.
Dry the area completely after bathing.
Gently pat dry with a soft towel.
Avoid chronic friction.
Try not to scratch or rub the lesions, as it may cause secondary bacterial infection and spreading of infection to other areas of the body.
Maintain proper hygiene, as hygiene plays a very important role in avoiding the recurrence of infection.
Wash clothes separately in hot water.
Wear dry clothes. Avoid wet wear.
Wear loose, comfortable, thin cotton inners or clothes. Avoid tight-fitting, synthetic wear. Wear breathable fabrics.
Stay in a well-ventilated room or cool environment. Avoid humid weather conditions.
Take a tablet of Fluconazole 150 milligrams once a week for three weeks.
Take a tablet of Levocetirizine 5 milligrams at night after food for ten days (if itching).
Avoid high-potency steroids like Lobate GM (Clobetasol propionate, Neomycin sulphate, and Miconazole).
I hope that this answers your query.
Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.
Thank you.
