Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am 26 years old. I am a 20-week pregnant woman. I saw some notable problems in my laboratory report. Please give me some valuable opinions regarding my problems. My queries are given below.
1- The left renal pelvis is prominent without calyceal dilatation.
2- Bilateral choroid plexus cysts measuring 8 to 10 mm in size were noted in bilateral ventricles.
Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
Thank you for sharing your report. Based on the findings:
1. Left renal pelvis prominence (5 to 6 mm) is mild and often seen in normal pregnancies. It usually resolves on its own and is monitored in follow-up ultrasounds.
2. Bilateral choroid plexus cysts (8 to 10 mm) are also commonly seen in the second trimester. In most cases, especially when isolated and without other abnormalities, they resolve by the third trimester and do not affect the baby’s development.
Since there are no structural defects or genetic markers, these findings are usually not concerning. However, I may recommend a follow-up scan and possibly a detailed anomaly scan or genetic counselling for reassurance. You are doing the right thing by staying informed. Kindly continue regular checkups or consult me.
I hope this information will help you.
Thanks.
