What could be the reason for a wound that is spreading?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My son is 5-years-old, and he has a small wound. I thought it was a mosquito bite. Then it became big and started to ooze water and started to expand; then it started to spread. He had no fever, but he had pain and severe itching. What could be the reason? My grandmother searched on the internet and told me that it says herpes. What is it?

Kindly suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

I understand your concern.

It would be of great help if you could send a photo of your son's wound to evaluate the changes myself. It could be herpes, but you made it worse by oozing it. Please send me a photo of it. Do not ooze it anymore. Keep it clean. Apply anti-itch ointment you find over the counter. Looking forward to having the photo in. Wishing you a fast recovery.

I hope this helps.

Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.

Thank you.
