How to manage cocaine relapse-induced paranoia and headaches?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I struggled with drug addiction in the past, and though I managed to overcome it, I have recently relapsed. The trauma of witnessing my dad's death has made it worse; I cannot shake the memories. When I use crack cocaine alone, I become paranoid and fear the lights will explode, so I cover my head and squeeze it tightly, leading to headaches. I am concerned I may be causing myself head injuries, but I cannot seem to stop. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

We feel glad that you reached out to us.

I extend my heartfelt condolences for the loss of your father and empathize with the challenges you are encountering in battling drug addiction. Recognizing the difficulty of your situation is the first step towards healing, and reaching out for support is paramount for your well-being. I suggest the following.

  1. Firstly, I urge you to connect with a mental health professional or a supportive community to navigate through the trauma and address your addiction. They possess the expertise and resources to guide you through this trying time.

  2. Moreover, it is crucial to acknowledge that resorting to crack cocaine may intensify your struggles and hinder emotional coping mechanisms. Exploring alternative avenues like meditation, deep breathing exercises, or engaging in creative pursuits can offer relief from stress and anxiety (excessive worry).

  3. I also suggest watching a movie like "Jesus Revolution" for guidance and perspective. While spiritual solace can be comforting, it is essential to supplement it with professional assistance for a holistic approach to recovery. Integrating spiritual support with professional guidance often yields more effective results.

  4. Lastly, I advise caution regarding any potential physical harm, particularly concerning head injuries. If you are apprehensive about such risks, consulting a healthcare professional is prudent to ensure appropriate care and treatment.

  5. Remember, your journey to recovery is a testament to your strength, and you need not traverse it alone.

I hope this helps.

Kindly revert so I can assist you further.

Thank you.
