Are there any side effects of Imodium?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I suffer from constipation and have undergone many tests, including colonoscopy, but nothing was found. I have been using Laxido to stimulate bowel movements, but it was not effective, so I had to use Imodium to stop it. I have read that Imodium has side effects. Is it true?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I have reviewed your query. Considering your age and recent normal colonoscopy, this is nothing to be worried about, especially when there is no episode of bleeding from the rectum, there is no unintentional weight loss, there is no significant family history of gut diseases.

So I would suggest you to follow a few instructions.

  1. Drink plenty of water and take a high-fiber diet.
  2. Take Psyllium husk one to two tablespoons full with a glass of water daily or on alternative days for constipation; you can avoid the Laxido (laxative) sachet. Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them and take the medications with their consent.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
