Can intrauterine device be effective for more than 10 years?

Hi doctor,
My fiance has been using a copper IUD (intrauterine device) for the last five years. Is it effective for 8 to 12 years? Since IUD is a effective form of birth control with only a 99 % success rate of working, I do pull out method as a precautionary measure. For now, I do not want kids. She prefers pull out on ovulation days and do not want pull out on non-ovulation days and asks me to go inside her. Please help.
