Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am planning to take contraceptive pills but I am not sure which one to take. Can you suggest me which contraceptive pills I should take?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Thank you for your query.
I have reviewed your query. It would be better if you would send me your detailed history. Firstly all contraceptive pills mostly comprise hormones, and these hormones, if taken for years, can give short and long-term side effects. So try to use it for a few months or around a year. It depends on your body as well as if it is not taking long-term side effects so you can continue but still not very long duration. As a combined oral contraceptive any brand has both estrogen and progesterone but can give long-term side effects but it differs from person to person.
Like combined oral contraceptives better not to take in obesity, history of venous thromboembolism, hypertension, headache esp migraine, stroke, clot formation, breast and endometrial cancer, etc as these triggers above themselves. Progesterone-only pills are better but can give bone pain and reduce bone density if taken for a long time and also causes weight gain and irregular unscheduled bleeding. You can have Mirena intrauterine device as well that can be placed for three years and it gradually reduces cycles but better not to remain for years to be on the safe side.
I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
