Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have been diagnosed with COPD. My symptoms include a loss of appetite, headaches, lack of energy, and weakness. My water consumption is minimal, and I mostly drink carbonated beverages.
Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) consists of two main components. One involves chronic coughing and phlegm production, while the other is characterized by restrictive lung disease, often due to interstitial lung disorders, which lead to breathing difficulties. A pulmonologist will prescribe the appropriate medication based on the X-rays and the extent of lung involvement. Your symptoms are expected to improve as your breathing gets better. Unfortunately, COPD patients often experience hypoxemia (a lack of oxygen in the bloodstream), making them more susceptible to infections and causing weakness and fatigue throughout the day.
Several treatment options are available, including bronchodilators, beta-agonists, corticosteroids, anticholinergics, and prophylactic antibiotics. The specific treatment plan will be determined after auscultation and review of the patient’s X-rays.
If possible, please upload the X-ray for a more accurate assessment and evaluation. It is important for you to follow a proper diet. You should eat small, frequent meals and consider including fizzy drinks to increase calorie intake. Additionally, you should rest well before meals and avoid spicy foods. Also, consider taking vitamin supplements, one tablet daily before bedtime, to help boost immunity.
I hope this helps you.
Thank you.
