Hi doctor,

I have had a dry cough for the last two months. I am a 30-year-old male. I took medicine and the cough stopped, but when I stopped the medicine, the cough started again. Please help.

Do you have a running nose, nasal congestion, or frequent sneezing episodes?

Is your cough worse at some time of day or increase with dust or fumes exposure?

If such history is there, then you might be suffering allergic rhinitis that involves the nose and throat. Investigations required in such patients:

1. Complete blood count with absolute eosinophil count.

2. Chest x-ray.

3. X-ray of paranasal sinuses.

Its treatment includes:

1. Steam inhalation twice daily for 10 days.

2. Warm saline gargles twice daily for 10 days.

3. Nasal spray Fluticasone one spray on each nose twice daily for one month.

Follow up after five days or before in case of further queries.
