Hello doctor,

I have had a cough for more than a week now. I have already taken cough medicine, but it is not working.

Can you prescribe a medicine I can take so I will feel better?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Given that you have had a persistent cough for over a week with no improvement even after taking lagundi capsules and are now experiencing a heavy sensation in your chest, it is concerning.

It is important to consider several possible causes, such as a lingering viral infection, post-viral cough, bronchitis, or even early signs of asthma or an allergic response. Since your cough is dry and there is no phlegm, it may not be a bacterial infection.

However, if it is interfering with your breathing, sleep, or daily activities, you should definitely see a doctor for a chest examination and possibly a chest X-ray to rule out pneumonia or other conditions.

Management:

  • In the meantime, if there is no contraindication based on your personal health history, you could consider trying a non-drowsy antihistamine like Loratadine 10 mg once daily, especially if there is a possibility of an allergic or postnasal drip component.

  • You might also take a bronchodilator cough syrup, such as salbutamol-based preparations, if available in your region. These can help ease airway irritation and reduce coughing.

Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicines with their consent.

I hope this has helped you.

Please feel free to reach out to me again if you have further queries.
