Why are the blood parameters still raised post COVID-19?

Hi doctor,

I am attaching my mother's post-COVID-19 reports, around 25 days since her first symptom started. Please interpret them. She still has occasional fevers and is very weak. Her appetite is also less. Kindly suggest whether we have to be concerned about anything. Thanks.

I went through your mother's reports (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity) and the brief history that you have described. Her reports are satisfactory except for some infection and raised CRP (c-reactive protein) and ferritin levels suggestive of recent infective and inflammatory processes due to COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019). Her vitamin D levels are also borderline that requires replacement. I would like to know some more details about her present problem. What are all the medicines she is taking now? How severe was her COVID-19 disease? Is she still having a cough or burning while urinating? Does she have diabetes or hypertension? I do not think there is any reason to worry. But we need to find out the source of infection in her body that is causing fever now. Kindly get back with the above details for further discussion and management. Take care.

She must be having some source of infection as her TLC (total leucocyte count) is elevated. And as she is having burning micturition, she is more likely to have a urinary tract infection. If possible, get one urine routine and microscopy done. And start her with an antibiotic, tablet Zifi 200 mg (Cefixime) twice a day for five days. But after urine routine and microscopy, we may have to change the treatment depending upon the reports. Also, you can give her multivitamin syrup twice a day.
