Does the COVID vaccine decrease immunity?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

There are many rumors that our immunity decreases after taking the COVID vaccine. While I understand that wearing the mask, social distancing, and others, are very important as antibodies do not develop for some time. But does it mean that our immunity is even lesser than someone who has not taken a vaccine? Please clarify my doubt.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

It is a rumor that after taking the vaccine, immunity decreases. This is because after taking the vaccine, antibodies in the body are formed to some extent after the first dose and to a large extent after the second dose.

There is no reason why the immunity should be decreased. However, it may take some time to build antibodies, so appropriate precautions must be taken.

So it is safe to take the vaccine in adults and children above 6 years of age.

I hope this has helped you. Please feel free to reach me again, in case of further queries.

Thank you.
