Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
There is a high creatinine level in my blood. I am a non-vegetarian. It is noticed that shellfish should be avoided. I consume alcohol sometimes.
What is the quantity of water to be taken in a day?
What about other fish?
What is your advice?
Please suggest.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read your query and can understand your concern.
Do you have chronic kidney disease?
For how long?
Do you have swelling in the feet?
Do you have hypertension?
Have you ever been put on dialysis?
Any evidence of fluid retention, swelling around your eyes, a puffy face, and decreased urine output?
The creatinine clearance calculated by age, sex, body weight, and serum creatinine comes down to 22.6 ml/min. This suggests that you have stage 4 CKD (chronic kidney disease). Protein waste, toxins, and buildup in the body lead to uremia, which has symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, abnormal taste, loss of appetite, difficulty concentrating, and fatigue.
Fluid retention due to a decrease in urine output may also occur. Diet should be calculated based on protein, salt, and fluid intake. I would advise you to quit alcohol as soon as possible.
Your water intake should equal your water loss, which includes urinary and insensible loss, such as sweat.
If you urinate 16.6 fluid ounces a day, you may add 16.6 fluid ounces and can have 0.2 gallon of water daily. Protein at 0.6 g/kg can be taken from high-quality sources like eggs, milk, poultry, seafood, red meats, and soy.
Again, eating fish is individualized and should be avoided if phosphorus and uric acid levels are high. Otherwise, consuming fish (baked or boiled) once or twice weekly is not restricted.
Do tag if you have reports (US (ultrasound) abdomen).
I hope this answers your query.
Let me know if I need to assist you further.
Thank you.
