The cyamella is a rare, asymptomatic knee sesamoid bone located in the proximal tendon of the popliteal muscle, usually seen at the lateral face of the distal femur in the popliteal groove. The anterior-posterior view of a plain radiograph is where cyamella is most seen. It is more frequently observed in less evolved primates and a large percentage of dogs.
