What causes dark rings, veins when flaccid, and a bruise-like spot on the penis shaft?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I observed a dark ring around my penis in its flaccid state, which upon stretching the nearby skin, reveals veins. Upon release, the skin retracts, causing the veins to converge and create a dark color. Additionally, there has been a persistent dark spot resembling a bruise on the shaft for weeks. While I have not closely monitored this, the color dissipates during erections, and there are no pain, swelling, or issues with erection maintenance. Please help.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

These are regular veins that can become noticeable from masturbation or sexual activity. Even without such activities, veins may appear prominent. If you have no issues with this, you can disregard it. Veins contain dark-colored blood, explaining the darkness on the penis. During an erection, the stretching lightens the color.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to ask if you have any further questions.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

I wanted to inquire regarding the spot on the penis that is not a vein.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

The marked spot is penile melanosis, a benign condition caused by the accumulation of melanin pigment in the skin. It does not necessitate treatment, and dark spots can occur on any part of the body.

I hope this helps.

Please revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.
