I am 28, with dark spots around nose area. How to manage?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 28-year-old female. I noticed three dark spots around my nose and eye. This area is also dry.

Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for reaching out with your concerns.

From what you are describing, dark, dry patches around the nose and near the eyes are quite common and usually related to skin dryness, irritation, pigmentation, or conditions like contact dermatitis, eczema, or early melasma. The skin in these areas is thin and sensitive, so even frequent rubbing, use of harsh face washes, cosmetics, or sun exposure can cause dryness followed by darkening. Nutritional factors, hormonal changes, or underlying anemia can also sometimes contribute to facial pigmentation.

For now, keep the treatment very simple:

  1. Stop using any harsh soaps, scrubs, fairness creams, or home remedies on your face.

  2. Wash your face only twice daily with a mild, fragrance-free cleanser.

  3. Apply a gentle moisturizer (preferably with ceramides or glycerin) twice a day, especially after washing.

  4. During the daytime, use a light sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 30 or more, even if you stay indoors, because sun exposure worsens dark spots.

  5. Avoid rubbing or scratching these areas, as dryness and friction make pigmentation darker.

I need a little more clarity to guide you properly. Answer these questions:

  • How long have these dark spots been present?

  • Did they appear suddenly or gradually?

  • Are they itchy, burning, or completely painless?

  • Have you recently changed any face products, soap, or cosmetics?

Can you send me a clear photo showing exactly where the spots are near the nostrils, under the eyes, or on the eyelids?

That will help me decide whether this is simple dryness-related pigmentation or something that needs specific treatment. I hope my answer is clear to you, and if you need any details at any time, I am here and at your service.

Thank you.
