Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
What is a good deodorant for dark armpits? I have been using the deodorant for only three days, but it is getting darker and darker.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
It is frustrating when something meant to help ends up making things feel worse, and I hear your concern. If your underarms are getting darker after just a few days of using a deodorant, your skin may be reacting sensitively to some of its ingredients, especially if it contains alcohol, strong fragrances, or harsh whitening agents. Underarm skin is delicate, and darkening can often indicate irritation, inflammation, or even a mild allergic reaction.
Instead of continuing with the same product, switch to a gentle, fragrance-free, and alcohol-free deodorant, something that is designed for sensitive skin. Look for ingredients like Niacinamide (vitamin B3), which can help brighten and soothe, or aloe vera and chamomile for calming the skin. Also, avoid shaving frequently or applying deodorant right after shaving, as this can increase irritation and worsen the pigmentation.
For now, stop using the current deodorant, let your skin rest, and moisturize with a mild, non-comedogenic cream. If the darkness continues to worsen, it might be helpful to see a dermatologist. You are not alone in this; underarm skin struggles are common, and with the right care, things can improve.
I hope this helps.
Thank you and take care.
Regards.
