What could cause delayed periods despite a negative blood and urine test?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 24-year-old female, and my weight is about 154 lbs. My period is delayed by 22 days, but my blood and urine test is negative. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

Menstrual irregularities, in your case, could be due to hormonal imbalances caused by PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). PCOS is an endocrinal disorder in which hormonal imbalance occurs due to cysts in the ovary, and facial hair growth and weight gain may be seen. As it is a lifestyle disease, I suggest you change your lifestyle, eat a high-protein diet with lots of vegetables and fruits and exercise regularly.

I also suggest you get your hemoglobin, HbA1c (glycated hemoglobin), and TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) levels test done. No need to worry about it and take progesterone for withdrawal bleeding.

I hope this helps you.

Kind regards.
