Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My period is six days late, and there is only light spotting. Two days back, I had pink discharge, and it changed to brown the next day.
I was very worried, so I took a test, and it was negative. My period still has not come.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
A six-day delay in your period, along with light spotting that started as pink and turned brown, is quite commonly seen and usually points to old blood rather than anything serious. This often happens when your period is about to begin but is slightly delayed, which can be due to hormonal fluctuations, stress, changes in routine, illness, or even minor weight changes.
Since your pregnancy test was negative, it reduces the likelihood of pregnancy. However, if the test was taken very early, it may not yet detect pregnancy, so repeating it in a couple of days with the first morning urine would be more reliable. In most cases like this, it turns out to be a delayed cycle rather than a pregnancy.
If your period still does not come within the next seven to 10 days, it would be reasonable to consider a blood pregnancy test or a basic hormonal evaluation, especially if this pattern repeats.
I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Thank you.
