Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I recently got dengue, and it has been a month since I have recovered. Can you get dengue twice in the same season? Do different dengue strains exist in the same season?

Answered by Dr. Arpit Varshney

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

There are four different dengue strains, and the fifth one was discovered recently. So you can get infected with different dengue strains. However, it is an infrequent phenomenon as one strain is usually seen in one area, and other strains are generally absent. So theoretically, it is possible but practically not. However, there are a few more illnesses that resemble dengue. They are scrub typhus, leptospirosis, etc. The treatment for all of them is different. So there is a need to establish a definite diagnosis before starting treatment. I hope this helps. Kindly revert in case of further queries.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
