Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 35-year-old male. I have been staying in a place where there is a high rise in dengue cases. How does dengue spread? What are the main symptoms of dengue that require immediate care? What tests should I undergo to test for dengue? What precautionary measures should be taken? Is there any vaccine to prevent it? What are the methods to improve immunity against such diseases? Is it caused by any type of virus?
Please advise.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Dengue is a viral infection spread through the bite of infected Aedes mosquitoes. Symptoms may include high fever, headache, body aches, nausea, vomiting, and rash. The main symptoms requiring immediate care include severe abdominal pain, blood in vomit or stool, persistent vomiting, rapid breathing, bleeding gums or nose, restlessness, and fatigue. Dengue fever is diagnosed with a blood test, including the NS1 (non-structural protein 1) antigen test and antibody tests (IgM and IgG). Recommended precautionary measures include using mosquito repellents, wearing long-sleeved clothes, using mosquito nets or screens, eliminating standing water sources, and keeping surroundings clean.
Regarding the dengue vaccine, it exists but is only recommended for those with prior dengue infection. To improve immunity, I recommend maintaining a balanced diet, regular exercise, adequate sleep, staying hydrated, managing stress, and considering immune-boosting foods.
I hope this guidance helps you.
Thank you for using icliniq, and have a nice day.
