After a month of upper back teeth filling, I still have increased sensitivity and altered bite. Please help.

Hi doctor,

My dentist fixed two fillings in my upper back teeth. As my bite was different and I had sensitivity, I went back to the dentist, and the doctor fixed it. She said she needed to shave most of the fillings because I had a very heavy bite. After a month, I still feel few sensitivities though it got better. The doctor took a look and said I feel the sensitivities because of my heavy bite and the replacement of fillings which she needed to shave mostly. She recommended I use a night guard and a toothpaste for sensitivities as she does not think there is any major issue or anything else that she or I can do. But I wonder if this is a common issue that cannot be avoided or something caused due to the lack of her skills or knowledge. Thank you for your opinion.

I understand your concern and worry. But from the things you have explained to me, I believe your dentist is very skilled and did the most exact treatment that could be done. The sensitivity that you are still complaining of might be due to shaving off the tooth structure and filling that will probably settle with time. Sensitivity happens when the second layer of your teeth structure is even a bit exposed, and as you have lost the natural part, the filling will take some time. Continue using a night guard and an anti-sensitivity toothpaste. They shall be helpful. Also, when you use your toothpaste, try keeping it on the tooth for three to four minutes till you do other works and then wash off with gentle brushing. Also, give a soft finger massage to your gums and teeth after brushing. I hope I was able to clear your doubts as of now. Kindly feel free to revert for more queries.
