Why does pain occur in a restored tooth?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 35-year-old female. A few days ago, I underwent a deep teeth cleaning procedure and had fillings done in some of my teeth. Today, one of the teeth with the filling has started to hurt, and it feels as though it may become loose or fall out. Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern.

If the tooth that has been filled is causing pain, then the tooth may have a deep cavity that has led to an infection in the pulp. In this case, it may be necessary to undergo root canal treatment in order to save the tooth. To cure the infection, I suggest you take a course of antibiotics with a tablet containing Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid three times a day. Additionally, I suggest you take a strong painkiller like a tablet containing Aceclofenac and Paracetamol three times daily for a week to manage the pain. If your dentist is not available, I suggest you visit another dentist, talk with them, and take the medications with their consent. Delaying treatment may result in increased pain. If possible, I suggest you initiate the root canal treatment, as it can provide immediate relief from the discomfort you are experiencing.

I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
