How can a person improve their dental health?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I began having my teeth removed when I was 11 years old. So far, two teeth on the right side of my upper gum and one on the left side have been removed. In the lower gum, the tooth near my right wisdom tooth is completely rotten, and two others are partially rotten, with one being treated for caries. I am 18 years old, male, a student, and weigh 121 pounds.

I try to avoid foods that may harm my teeth and regularly eat yogurt, bananas, and mandarins. I also make an effort to keep my teeth clean using hydrogen peroxide. Despite my efforts, the dentist mentioned that I would likely lose my teeth. What can I do to improve my dental health? I would like to keep my teeth. Could you offer some guidance on what I should do?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Firstly, do not apply hydrogen peroxide directly to your teeth.

For carious teeth, it is essential to use remineralizing toothpaste regularly and undergo professional dental scaling (teeth cleaning). Scaling should be done every six months to one year. Afterward, the dentist will assess whether any restoration is needed. As a maxillofacial surgeon, I understand your concerns and can provide detailed guidance if you send me a picture of the affected tooth.

Could you share your dental history? For instance, have you visited a dentist in the past seven years?

Once I have more details, I can give you a list of remedies to follow. In the meantime, you can start using a Chlorhexidine mouthwash or an essential oil mouthwash to prevent gum infections.

Regarding dental advice, I will guide you step by step and offer personalized recommendations. Do not worry about what your dentist has said—let me evaluate your situation and devise a strategy.

I hope this helps.

Kindly revert so I can assist you further.

Thank you.
