How many times a year should she be dewormed?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My daughter is two years old and weighs 22 pounds. We gave her deworming medicine six months ago. Can we give her another dose of dewormer this month? We gave her Bandy suspension 5 ml and repeated it after 15 days, 6 months ago. Can we repeat the same now?
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Routine deworming is important in children every 6 months, especially in areas where worms are common, to prevent nutritional deficiencies, poor growth, pica, and abdominal problems (abdominal pain, constipation due to improper diet). Since your child was last dewormed six months ago, you can repeat the treatment now.
Suspend Bandy (Albendazole), 10 ml (milliliter), as a single dose, and repeat the same dose after 15 days, as done previously. Ensure your child drinks enough water before and after taking the medicine. Observe side effects such as vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and rash, which are uncommon but should be reported if they appear.
Deworming supports healthy digestion, absorption of nutrients, immunity, and overall growth. No routine lab tests are needed unless your child develops symptoms of infection. Maintaining this six-month schedule helps prevent worms and ensures continued healthy development.
I hope this helps.
Kindly follow up if you have more concerns.
Thank you.
