Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 70-year-old man, and I have been diagnosed with diabetes. My sugar level is above 230 mg/dL after food and 150 mg/dL before food, and my blood pressure is also 160 mmHg. My hba1c value is 3.1 percent, which shows its pre-diabetic state. Do I need any medication for my high blood sugar and high blood pressure? How do I proceed with my treatment? Or can a proper diet solve all my problems?
Thank you.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
At the age of 70 years, it is advisable to start the medications as it might create complications in the future. So, start with some low-dose medicines which will not create any side effects on the body. Along with medications, you need to follow a good diet and regular physical activity. Every day, walking for 30 minutes or any low-intensity workout will be beneficial to your body. Avoid sweetened food items, avoid carbohydrates, and less oil. Intake of non-oily foods and vegetables is preferred. To cut down on blood pressure, along with medications, a low sodium diet, exercises, hydration, and involvement in recreational activities are encouraged. Majorly, diet control with sufficient activity is advisable for controlling all the given issues. Lifestyle modification and breathing exercises are recommended for vital control.
I hope this information helps you.
Revert in case of queries.
