Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I work on a cruise ship and I experienced severe vomiting and diarrhea about 12 hours ago. At least 20 other passengers and crew members have similar symptoms. The ship's doctor mentioned norovirus. I am having episodes every 30 to 45 minutes and feel very weak and dizzy. I have not urinated in eight hours, and my mouth is dry. I am worried about dehydration since I also have type 1 diabetes. What warning signs should I look out for, and how should I manage my insulin during this illness?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern
Warning signs to watch for include extreme fatigue, restlessness, hunger, and symptoms of hypoglycemia due to dehydration. It is important to keep checking your blood sugar levels regularly to prevent these issues.
Other symptoms to be aware of include excessive thirst, frequent urination, and sweating. If you experience these, check your blood sugar and continue taking your medication. To manage dehydration, drink fluids with electrolytes, such as lemon water with salt and sugar, or consider using oral rehydration salts (ORS).
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
Thank you.
