Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been taking Amox-Clav 875 mg for bronchitis for a few days, and I have had diarrhea since last night. Should I keep taking this antibiotic? Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It is very common to have diarrhea when you are taking antibiotics. Following are the ways to manage diarrhea without changing or stopping antibiotics; 1. Diarrhea with antibiotics occurs because antibiotics kill normal intestinal bacteria. You can use probiotic-containing foods such as curd or yogurt. 2. You also can take probiotic tablets three times daily. They contain probiotics and help to overcome antibiotic-induced injury to intestinal bacteria. 3. Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid tablets must be taken with food (not before or after food). So take tablets when you are halfway through your breakfast or dinner. This will reduce the chances of diarrhea. If nothing works, you need to stop antibiotics and change to a different antibiotic. I hope I was helpful to you. Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
