Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I have been experiencing loose stools and diarrhea for approximately four weeks. I had a colonoscopy two years back, and the doctor removed a serrated polyp. Can you please advise?
Thank you.

Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I had testicular cancer previously, but that was 11 years ago and I am now fully cured. I was just worried about whether it was colon cancer, that is all. My last colonoscopy was two years ago.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
Thank you for providing additional information.
Testicular cancer has already been cured. Colon cancer typically presents with relatively prolonged symptoms such as blood in stools and weight loss. Your last colonoscopy was about two years ago. There is very little chance that a tumor could develop within this timeframe. Repeat colonoscopy is recommended based on the findings of the first colonoscopy, including the number and size of the polyps removed, as well as the histopathological reports of the polyps. The usual duration for a repeat colonoscopy is around three years.
I hope this information helps you.
Kind regards.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for your reply.
The specialist advised that I repeat a colonoscopy in 5 years. The size of the polyp was less than 0.2 inches, I believe.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
That means you had low-risk polyps (very small polyps). If the recommendation after colonoscopy is 5 years, then this diarrhea would not be related to colon cancer. Colon cancer needs years to develop. This one-month history is more likely an infective diarrhea or related to your sensitive gut if you are overly concerned about colon cancer.
I hope this helps you.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thank you for replying.
One more question, if colon cancer takes years to develop, then why do some people have to get a colonoscopy every two years?
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
As I mentioned earlier, the decision for a repeat colonoscopy depends on the number of polyps removed, the size of the polyps, and the biopsy report. For example, if someone has polyps larger than 0.7 inches, more than five polyps removed, and the biopsy suggests dangerous features, then re-evaluation within one to three years would be recommended.
I hope this information helps you.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for your response.
Okay, so there is nothing to worry about then. And you would know if it was worrisome based on your current level of experience.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I do not think this episode is related to colon cancer, which is your main concern. The previous polyp was just 0.2 inches, and the recommended colonoscopy interval is five years.
I hope this clarifies your query.
Thank you.
