What is the effective treatment for digestive problems along with heavy bloating in a 23-year-old?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 23-year-old male, currently weighing 119 pounds. One year ago, I weighed 132 pounds. I have been experiencing digestive problems for the past five years. Over the past six months, my symptoms have mostly included constipation, but I have also had episodes of diarrhea in between.

A couple of months ago, I was diagnosed with colitis. I had loose motions five times in a row within a few hours, and after an ultrasound, it was determined that I had colitis. Now, I am facing heavy bloating and occasional breathlessness, and there are two to three days between passing stools. Additionally, my stools have black spots or sometimes contain white, undigested parts.

Over the past couple of days, I have had bowel movements six times. I have been taking a probiotic supplement, Ornidazole, and Rabeprazole for the past five days. I would appreciate your guidance. While there is no intense pain, I feel a sense of heaviness and fatigue, and I sometimes experience slight chills.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Do not worry. All symptoms seem to be due to poor digestion. Please undergo a stool examination, liver function test (LFT), and colonoscopy for a clearer diagnosis. Meanwhile, please avoid oily and spicy foods, and non-vegetarian dishes for a few weeks. Practice yoga and pranayama regularly. Go for regular walks to improve digestion. Include more salads and fruits in your diet.

I suggest you take the following medicines:

  • Tablet Albendazole and Ivermectin: One single dose only.

  • Capsule Digestive enzyme supplement: One capsule twice a day after meals for seven days.

Send me a follow-up after seven days. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with them, and take the medicines with their consent.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.

Thank you.
