What can be done to manage yellowing teeth and brown stains?
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a 24-year-old male, and I am concerned about my oral health. My teeth appear yellow and have brownish hard stains. I usually consume hot and cold beverages after my regular meals. Is it because of that? Should I completely stop consuming them? I brush my teeth twice every day, yet I still have stains on my teeth. I do not have any other habits or illnesses. Should I use any mouthwash along with brushing to keep my teeth clean and white?
Thank you.
Hello,
I am glad you chose icliniq for your medical-related queries.
I understand your concern.
Yes, hot and cold beverages can cause staining. However, it does not completely depend on that. You can continue maintaining oral hygiene along with a safe amount of intake. But, get scaling done first of all. Here are my suggestions:
1. Get a full mouth scaling done and brush twice daily as you already do.
2. You may take beverages but do not overdo it. Moreover, kindly avoid very hot, very cold, or acidic beverages back to back. Also, rinse your mouth with normal water properly after every meal.
3. Do not brush your teeth immediately after taking beverages, just rinse out with normal water. But before all these, get a full mouth scaling done and you will surely get encouragement to maintain oral hygiene after that.
4. Moreover, staining and caries do depend on our food habits but not fully, there are other factors as well like hormones, acid production in one's belly, acid refluxes from the stomach, water quality of the area you were born and you live in, and many more to go on which are not always in our control.
So in short I just wanted to tell you that kindly do not get disheartened and continue with your good oral hygiene habits and it will all be fine soon.
I hope my answer was helpful to you.
