Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am 29 years old and was diagnosed with ADHD last year. One issue I have observed is a repeated desire to purchase goods in the belief that they will ultimately help me better my routines, organization, or productivity. I frequently buy plans, applications, storage systems, or devices with the expectation that they will fix the problem, but they always go unused after a short time, while the underlying issues persist.
This pattern has started to become both financially stressful and difficult to explain to others. I wanted to ask whether this kind of impulsive “problem-solving” behavior is common among adults with ADHD. Does dopamine-seeking or the novelty factor associated with ADHD contribute to constantly searching for new solutions?
Any advice on therapies, coping methods, or practical applications that may help alleviate this cycle of repeated spending and better long-term habit management would also be much appreciated.
Please help.
Thank you.

The good news is that there are several behavioral strategies that can help manage impulsive buying habits effectively. Some helpful approaches include:
I hope these suggestions are helpful.
Take care, and feel free to reach out if you need further guidance.
Thank you.
