Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
How long should I wait after consuming alcohol to take a Xanax? It has been 11 hours since I had a drink. Kindly suggest.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read your query. Xanax contains Alprazolam, which works by calming the central nervous system (CNS), and alcohol can interact with it, potentially amplifying the sedative effects. It is suggested to wait for 24 to 36 hours after your last drink intake to avoid any potential interactions between Xanax and alcohol. I assume you had minimal to mild alcohol intake only. Could you please specify how much alcohol you had? Was it excessive or heavy? For your safety, it is recommended not to take any sedatives for 24 to 36 hours after consuming alcohol to prevent excessive sedation and potential adverse effects of the two substances interacting. Please feel free to follow up if you have any further related queries.
Regards.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thanks for the reply. I had heavy alcohol consumption. However, I took a very small amount of Xanax, less than 0.25 mg. It has been 11 hours, and I do not feel any effects of alcohol.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I understand the situation now. Thank you for the update. You mentioned that you have already taken Xanax, and it is good to know that you are conscious and oriented to time, place, and person. It is essential to be cautious about combining Xanax with alcohol to avoid potential interactions and adverse effects. To ensure your safety, please refrain from taking Xanax for at least another day after consuming alcohol. This precaution will help prevent any potential interactions between the medication and alcohol. After that period, you can resume taking the prescribed dose as usual. If you have any further related queries or concerns, please feel free to follow up. Take care and stay safe.
Regards.
