Hello doctor,

I have had a severe dry cough for the past few months, especially after an infection. What could be the reason?

Kindly help.

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query.

I understand your concern. In sore throat-like upper respiratory or pharyngitis-like infections post viral infection, bronchitis-like presentation occurs, and dry cough persists for a few days. Chest X-ray and CBC (complete blood count) can be done. If no other symptoms are present, dextromethorphan, like a cough suppressant, can be taken.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
