How to effectively manage dry eye syndrome?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been struggling with dry eye syndrome for a while now, and it is starting to affect my daily activities. My eyes often feel irritated, and I sometimes experience blurred vision, especially after long hours in front of screens. I have tried over-the-counter artificial tears, but they do not seem to provide lasting relief. Could you recommend any medications or treatments that might help with more persistent dry eye symptoms? Also, are there any lifestyle changes I should consider to improve my condition?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concerns and appreciate you sharing your symptoms.

As an Ayurvedic physician, I would be happy to help! For persistent dry eye symptoms, I recommend the following Ayurvedic medications and treatments:

  1. I-tone eye drops (nimba, sobhanjana, bhringaraj, punamava, nirgundi, tulsi patra, satapatri, yamani, haritaki, bibhaitaka, dhatriphala, haridra, karpuram, pudina satwa, madhu, and swet chandan): These herbal eye drops nourish and moisturize the eyes, reducing dryness and irritation.
  2. Nethramrutam drops (phitkari, saindhavalavana, and distilled water): These Ayurvedic eye drops are specifically designed to address dry eye syndrome, promoting healthy tear production and soothing eye irritation.
  3. Ayurvedic remedies: Triphala, an herbal blend that promotes overall eye health and reduces inflammation, and amalaki which is rich in vitamin C, helps to nourish and protect the eyes.
  4. Panchakarma treatment: Tarpanam, a gentle eye cleansing and nourishing treatment that helps to moisturize and soothe the eyes. Nethra vidalakam, a specialized eye treatment that involves applying warm herbal paste to the eyes, promoting relaxation and reducing dryness.

Lifestyle changes include:

  1. Follow a balanced diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin A, and antioxidants.
  2. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
  3. Avoid prolonged screen time and take regular breaks to rest your eyes.
  4. Practice gentle eye exercises and massage to promote healthy tear production.
  5. Avoid harsh chemicals and environmental irritants.
  6. Get enough sleep and manage stress through relaxation techniques like meditation or yoga.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you.
