Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My skin has been extremely dry and is peeling, with many visible blackheads and enlarged pores. It has also darkened and become very dull, and I feel like I have lost my natural glow.

Please advise.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand how frustrating it can be when your skin feels dry and dull and also shows visible blackheads and enlarged pores. I can understand your struggle completely.

According to your description, you are having a combination of dryness, buildup of dead skin, and possible mild acne or comedones, which can make the skin appear darker and lose its natural glow. Dry skin can also cause peeling and exacerbate the appearance of blackheads because the skin’s natural barrier is weakened. Environmental factors, skincare habits, diet, and even stress can contribute to these changes.

To help your skin regain its health and glow, it is important to focus on gentle hydration and exfoliation. Avoid physical scrubs and cleansers with salicylic acid, as they can further dry your skin.

I am giving you a step-by-step routine. Start with a mild, non-stripping face wash to cleanse your skin without worsening dryness. After washing in the morning, apply a moisturizer twice daily to restore hydration and strengthen your skin barrier, followed by an SPF (sun protection factor) sunscreen in the day and afternoon to avoid pigmentation.

For acne and comedones, you can use 20% Azelaic acid cream at night. Apply it under your moisturizer on alternate nights to reduce irritation while targeting blackheads and uneven pigmentation.

Also, follow some skincare tips, like always using sunscreen, even indoors, to prevent further dullness and pigmentation. Avoid harsh scrubs, over-washing, or aggressive exfoliation, as this can worsen peeling and dryness. Keep your skin hydrated by drinking enough water and maintaining a balanced diet. Be consistent with your routine, and you will see visible results in two to three weeks.

I hope this addresses your concerns. Please feel free to reach out if you need any further assistance.

Take care.
