Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

For about a year I have been coughing up mucus with a small fleck or flecks of blood in it. It happens only in the morning and not every day. I have noticed that my throat and mouth are very dry on the days that it happens. I also have little flecks of blood in my snot when I blow my nose first thing in the morning. I have had a chest X-ray that was normal. I recently quit smoking (a few days ago). Should I be concerned that it may be cancer? I am 32. I have also seen an ENT that said everything was normal.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your case carefully. I need some more information so that I can help you. Do you feel dryness in the eyes also? Some foreign body sensation in eyes? Do you need to drink some liquid with food to swallow it?

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Yes, I do often have dry eyes. My eye doctor says I have ocular rosacea, no foreign body sensation in my eyes though and yes, I do often need a drink while I eat to help swallow. The swallowing issue is what I went to the ENT for where they performed a pharyngogram swallow study and an esophogram which were also normal.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Do you have skin rashes? Any joint pains? I think you should get following investigation done that will help to diagnose your problem.

The Probable causes

Sjogren's syndrome.

Investigations to be done

CBC (complete blood count), ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate), ANA (anti-nuclear antibody by IFA-immunofluorescent assay).

Treatment plan

After reports.

Preventive measures

After reports.

Regarding follow up

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Sometimes I get both. Not very often and I can usually figure out a cause like I get a rash after I cut the grass or weed the flower beds and joint pain if I lay on my side for too long and sit in one position for a long time. I have a desk job, I get caught up in work and forget to move around sometimes.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I think that is not significantly related to your current illness. You should get the investigations done as I suggested and follow up with reports.

Investigations to be done
