Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 36-year-old woman dealing with dull skin, small bumps, and occasional breakouts, especially around my jawline right before my period. I have tried many products, but I feel more confused than before because everything claims to work, such as retinol, (AHA), Niacinamide, sunscreen, serums, and more. I want a simple routine that is actually safe for women with sensitive skin. I also have the following concerns:
I just want healthier, clearer skin without spending a lot on random products.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
The symptoms you describe are very common in women in their 30s, and the small bumps with breakouts around the jawline before your period strongly suggest hormonally influenced changes. Sensitive skin often becomes overwhelmed when too many active ingredients are used together, which leads to dullness, irritation, and clogged pores, so keeping your routine simple is much more effective than adding multiple products. I will suggest a sensitive skin care regimen to manage your issues.
For the morning, use a gentle cleanser, such as a hydrating cleanser or gentle skin cleanser, followed by a Niacinamide serum for oil control, bumps, and tone. Apply a light, non-comedogenic moisturizer, and finish with a broad-spectrum sunscreen with sun protection factor (SPF) 30 to 50. For night, start with three to four nights per week, adjusting to five nights per week if tolerated, beginning with a gentle cleanser, followed by Azelaic acid cream, 10 to 20%, and a moisturiser.
Once the skin tolerates the basics, for example, after four to six weeks, replace Azelaic acid with low-strength Retinol or Retinoid, or alternate nights with Retinol one night and Azelaic acid another night to help with texture, fine lines, and prevent new acne. Use non-comedogenic makeup and remove it thoroughly with a gentle cleanser at night. Do not layer too many active ingredients, and keep the routine minimal to avoid barrier disruption.
I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at iCliniq.
Thank you.
