Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have some kind of ear blockage as my left ear feels full and itchy, and I have difficulty hearing. The doctor suggested me to undergo an ear cleaning. I used Soliwax ear drops but the problem persisted. What should I do? Please suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Ear block can occur due to many causes. Eustachian tube dysfunction and wax in the external ear canal are the most common. The former is accompanied by some nose or throat infections. Both can have itchiness, fullness, earache, and reduced hearing as accompanying symptoms. For differentiating between the two an office examination by an ENT (ear-nose-throat) surgeon using an otoscope or microscope is necessary. If the doctor after such an examination has suggested you take Soliwax (Benzocaine and Chlorbutol) drops, then most probably he would have found impacted wax in your ear canal. To remove that one needs to make it soft and pliable. Hence the need for Soliwax. You must use it for over a week, religiously putting five to six drops about five to six times every day. Then the wax tends to mellow down into soft liquid material that can be easily removed in OPD. I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
