Are PR 147 and QT 362 concerning on a child's EKG?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I need an opinion on my son's EKG (electrocardiogram) that he had done because his blood pressure spiked, and he has been getting dizzy. His heart rate is 80 bpm, P: 48 ms, PR: 147 ms, QRS: 55 ms, QRSD: 90 ms, T: 34 ms, QT: 362 ms and QTc: 418 ms.

Please suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Based on your son’s EKG (electrocardiogram) results, his heart rate of 80 beats per minute is within the normal range. The measurements of the different waves and intervals (P wave, PR interval, QRS complex, QT, and corrected QT) all appear to be normal, which suggests that there is no obvious electrical problem or arrhythmia on the EKG. However, his symptoms of dizziness and the recent high blood pressure readings should be carefully evaluated to identify the underlying cause, which might involve other health factors such as hypertension or metabolic issues. Additionally, your son’s weight of 208 pounds at a height of 5’6” gives him a body mass index (BMI) of about 33.5, which falls into the category of moderate obesity. Obesity can contribute to high blood pressure and increase the risk of cardiovascular problems, so it would be important to discuss lifestyle changes and treatment options with his doctor to improve his overall health.

Please continue working with your healthcare provider or a cardiologist to monitor his condition closely and address any symptoms or concerns as they arise.

I hope this answers your query.

Let me know if I need to assist you further.

Thank you.
