What causes PV bleeding after ectopic tubal abortion?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My wife was admitted to the hospital for an ectopic tubal abortion, as she got severe pain in her right side. Her beta hCG was 2090 IU/L before that day. She has now been discharged from the hospital, and we checked again her beta hCG was 510 IU/L. Now, whenever she goes to the washroom, she faces PV bleeding. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. The beta hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is decreasing from 2090 IU/L to 510 IU/L due to PV (per vaginal) bleeding, and I suggest doing another beta hCG test and an ultrasound of pelvis. If bleeding increases or there is a pain in the abdomen, 510 IU/L beta hCG should ideally decrease in two days, or there are chances that the tubal ectopic will stay in the tube and try to rupture it. Also, visit the hospital urgently if pain, bleeding, or lightheadedness increases.

Thank you.
