Are my dry skin patches linked to eczema or cheilitis?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have recently developed what appears to be angular cheilitis and dyshidrotic eczema, and I am unsure of the cause. Despite discontinuing the use of all skincare products in an attempt to treat it, I have not seen any improvement. Currently, I am experiencing dry, flaking patches of skin on my face.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have reviewed your case. Let me explain each of your problems separately.

First, let us discuss eczema. It is a recurrent condition often aggravated by the use of most skincare products due to their chemical content, which can cause dryness. You also need to discontinue the use of antiseptics, as they can contribute to dryness.

Moreover, vigorously rubbing towels and using extremely hot water while bathing can exacerbate eczema. These are all precautions. If you still experience symptoms, do not worry; I will address them soon. The main treatment for eczema involves frequent moisturizing and applying moisturizer four to five times a day.

Now, angular cheilitis is caused by a combination of poor oral hygiene, fungal infection, hemoglobin deficiency, and use of lipstick. Use petroleum jelly on your lips. Get your complete blood count (CBC) done and then start taking a multivitamin. Additionally, maintain good hygiene.

I hope this information helps you.

Kindly revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.
