Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have felt stinging on the skin for the past three months. It is not pins and needles but a stinging and pricking feeling. More on the lower body, the tricep area, and the stomach. It sometimes happens at the back, and I also get this tingling or feather touch feeling on the face. It has been super frustrating. I got a bunch of blood work done and an MRI for the brain and spine to rule out MS. The neurologist gave me an SSRI which is Lexapro (Cipralex 5 mg). I have suffered from anxiety for ten years and managed it myself, except I took Cipralex 10 mg for two years, which made me gain weight. I have health anxiety, so I dislike taking medicine or trying a new medication. Could you share your thoughts as if it could be anything else? I also went to a dermatologist and used the recommended soaps, creams, and oils.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern. I would like to know more about your previous anxiety symptoms and why you went to see a psychiatrist? I want to know the difficulties you were facing and not the diagnosis of anxiety. Talking about your present symptoms, I do not think you have any neurological disorder. I am certain that you have a psychiatric illness for which you should take proper consultation. But, the symptoms you described are very similar to Ekbom's syndrome, for which you should take proper consultation. It is still in its early stages, so I suggest you take a consultation as soon as possible. Do not worry; you will undoubtedly be healthy soon if you take the treatment SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) is not an appropriate treatment for this condition, and you do not need to go and see any dermatologist. I suggest you get a psychiatric consultation.

Have a nice day. I hope I was of some help to you.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I went to see a psychiatrist and ten other doctors because I felt I was floating or sitting on a boat. That problem started after getting a massage. The person pressed my cervical area too hard, and since then, I have had a “swaying” feeling. I have had anxiety for ten years, and I have managed somehow. Even though it was bad where I could barely leave the house at one point. I was prescribed 10 mg Cipralex for my IBS and to help the anxiety symptoms overall. The stinging pricking feeling has happened in the last few months. My dad felt really sick and was in the hospital for a month which was a very stressful time. All this started after that. I sometimes feel like sandpaper feeling on my thighs. Tingling on the face like a feather, when this gets bad, I feel sensitive towards touch as well. I feel stinging and pricking on my back, arms, thighs, and obliques mostly. Some days it gets better, but some days are bad. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. I need to know more about your present symptoms. Your dad's health condition might have precipitated your anxiety symptoms, but the symptoms you described will not be solved just by your current medications. I suggest you go for a consultation because, after a thorough assessment, a prescription can be given.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My present symptoms are feeling of stinging and pricking, feather-like feeling, tingling on the skin, and sometimes sandpaper feeling on the thighs. Stinging and pricking are mainly in the obliques, sometimes in the back, arms, front, and back thighs. I also have this lower back tightness from time to time and disc bulge. I feel my right hip feels like a band sometimes. I went to two neurologists as well.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. I suggest you consult a psychiatrist rather than a neurologist, as I have mentioned before. It would be best if you had a combination of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) with an antipsychotic drug for proper treatment.

I hope I was helpful.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
