Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have experienced unexplained electrical shock sensations while asleep about six times in the past year, occurring randomly. The first two times were near my temple, resulting in surface bleeding. I sought emergency care to rule out a stroke; however, tests, including a CT scan, found no issues with blood vessels. Later occurrences were in my testicles, a shocking pain that abruptly woke me, feeling like a live wire shock. Medical tests generally showed good results, except for a low white blood cell count during a past cold. Recently, I have had a sinus infection. ER suggested it might be some form of neuralgia, but the cause remains unknown. Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

Experiencing electrical shock-like sensations in different parts of your body can be alarming and should need a prompt consultation with a neurologist for a thorough evaluation and diagnosis.

These symptoms could stem from various causes, including nerve-related conditions like neuralgia or neuropathy. Neuralgia manifests as sudden, intense pain along nerve pathways, while neuropathy can cause abnormal sensations such as tingling or electric shocks. Multiple factors like nerve damage, inflammation, or infections can underlie these conditions.

Your previous head injury might be pertinent; informing your healthcare provider about it could aid in understanding these symptoms better. They might consider further evaluation or doing specific tests to rule out any complications related to the head injury.

Additionally, medical conditions, medications, or environmental factors might contribute to these sensations. Discussing episodes of sinus infections and a low white blood cell count during some incidents with your healthcare provider is essential.

Remember, seeking advice from a healthcare professional is crucial. They can conduct a comprehensive examination, recommend necessary tests, and provide specialized referrals if needed for an accurate assessment and guidance on the most suitable course of action.

I hope this helps. Feel free to contact me if you have any further queries.

Thank you.
