Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have been experiencing severe pain during every menstrual cycle, and I suspect it might be due to endometriosis, as my sister has had it. Please provide more information on this condition and how it may impact my pelvic and gynecological health. I am also concerned about its potential effects on my ability to conceive, as I plan to get married and start a family within the next three years. Kindly guide.
Thank you in advance.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
Endometriosis involves the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity. Endometrial tissue is typically confined to the uterus and shed during the monthly menstrual cycle. For individuals with endometriosis, during their period, this misplaced endometrial tissue also sheds, causing pain in affected areas, which may lead to scarring during the healing process.
Since endometriosis commonly occurs around structures near the uterus, the resulting adhesions (scarring) have the potential to cause infertility in the future. Adhesions can block fallopian tubes, impeding natural pregnancy. In severe cases, it may lead to a frozen pelvis, where pelvic structures like the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, bladder, and some intestines become entangled by adhesions, making it difficult for a woman to carry a pregnancy. Endometriosis is a progressive condition that tends to worsen with age. For those not yet married, it is advisable to consider medications to slow down the growth of the disease.
I hope this helps.
Kindly revert so I can assist you further.
Thank you.
