What are the common causes of erectile dysfunction?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been married for six years. My concern is about the erection during sexual intercourse. During intercourse, I am facing issues with achieving a normal erection. I need to put in a lot of effort to maintain an erection. Also, I need to provide the sample for sperm analysis. I am unable to provide the sample at the hospital as the erection is not happening at that time. However, at night time, in my sleep, the liquid gets ejected automatically.

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

According to your complaints, you may have erectile dysfunction (ED). Reasons for erectile dysfunction (ED) are as follows:

  1. Stress due to work or family-related issues.

  2. Depression.

  3. Varicocele (enlargement of the veins within the scrotum).

  4. Fear of failure.

  5. Low self-esteem (chronic masturbation).

  6. Homosexuality.

  7. Religious constraints.

  8. Smoking and alcohol.

  9. Long-term illness such as cardiac disease, thyroid disease, kidney disease, or any other disease with long-term medication.

  10. Vitamin deficiency.

  11. Negative attitude towards your partner.

  12. Hormonal issues such as thyroid issues, low testosterone, and increased prolactin.

  13. Long-term drug usage.

  14. Diabetes and hypertension.

I suggest you do the Doppler penis, USG (ultrasound) pelvis, and scrotum, check your blood pressure, RBS (random blood sugar), free T3 (triiodothyronine), T4 (thyroxine), testosterone, and TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone). Share more details regarding the above reasons, and we can work on the diagnosis and treatment. It would help if you plan for regular exercise and a proper diet. You can use the tablet Mildfil (Tadalafil) 5 mg twice daily for a temporary solution.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
