Why do I have weak erections at age 21?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 21 years old. My penis does not become properly erect when I have sex with my partner. If I do not masturbate for a month, I can get an erection, but my penis still does not feel very hard. I want to make my penis stronger.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern.

At 21 years of age, erection problems are more commonly related to performance anxiety, stress, relationship factors, excessive pornography use, frequent masturbation, poor sleep, or lifestyle issues rather than a serious physical problem.

The fact that you can get erections, especially after avoiding masturbation for some time, is reassuring and suggests that the blood supply and erectile mechanism are likely working.

I would advise focusing on good sleep, regular exercise, avoiding smoking or recreational drugs, limiting pornography if applicable, and trying not to put pressure on yourself during sexual activity. Anxiety about erection quality often makes the problem worse.

If the erections are consistently not firm enough for satisfactory intercourse, further evaluation may be needed, including hormone testing such as testosterone levels and assessment of any psychological or physical factors contributing to the issue.

Most men your age improve once the underlying cause is identified and addressed.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.
