Why does my vision get blurry if I work continuously?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a power glass but not using it. If I do one work continuously, my eyes become blurry and tired, such as reading books, washing vessels, etc. What should I do? Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It looks like you may be having some eye strain. Do not worry, and it is very common nowadays. So I see your strain is worse on doing more near work like reading and washing vessels. So firstly, like you said that you have mild power and you do not wear glasses. I strongly recommend getting your spectacle number rechecked, especially if not done for a year or more. Secondly, you need to take frequent breaks while doing any near work. Like, follow the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 mins, look far away (20 feet at least) and for at least 20 seconds. Lastly, I will prescribe some eye drops to soothe your eyes. Do not worry, it is a minor issue, but I strongly recommend you recheck your power and wear spectacles regularly. Take frequent breaks from work, look at distant objects, etc.Eye drops to start. Refresh Tears (Boric Acid, Calcium Chloride, Magnesium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Purified Water, Purite (Stabilized Oxychloro Complex), Sodium Borate, and Sodium Chloride) or Teardrops eye drops (Carboxymethylcellulose 0.5%) for both eyes, one drop, 4 times a day for minimum one month. You do not need a prescription for these eye drops. I hope this helps. Take care.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for your reply.

Sure doctor, I will wear my spectacles, but the power is 25 in the left and 50 in the right eye. In the hospital, they told wear spectacles whenever I needed them. Should I wear it the whole day, doctor? Please answer.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, preferably wear it continuously. As I see, your power is not high, so even on and off wear is fine, but wear it more often if you cannot wear it continuously. However, as I said, if it has been a while since you have checked your power, I would recommend rechecking to be sure. Please follow the instructions as I told you. Take care. Thank you.
