Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I hope you are doing well.
I have been experiencing a persistent swelling above my right cheekbone, just below the eye. This swelling appeared after a facial trauma around six to seven years ago.
Recently, I did an MRI of the face, and the report showed no damage to the orbital bones. However, the swelling is still present and slightly noticeable, especially compared to the other side.
I also have a similar, less prominent swelling on the left side that has been there since childhood.
I would like to know:
What could be the cause of this swelling (fat, fluid, edema, etc.)?
Is an ultrasound of the facial soft tissue (facial soft tissue ultrasound) helpful in diagnosing this?
What kind of treatment would you recommend based on such symptoms?
I can provide photos and the MRI disc if needed.
Thank you in advance for your time and help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read your query.
I am unable to access the attachment you mentioned (attachments were removed to protect the patient's identity). Could you please re-upload your MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan report or any other relevant records? That will help me review your case properly.
I understand your symptoms, and as a maxillofacial surgeon, this falls within my area of expertise. Once I have reviewed your reports, I will be able to guide you clearly on the next steps.
Facial asymmetry can sometimes occur due to past trauma or minor variations, but a persistent, one-sided swelling like the one you are describing needs careful evaluation. In some cases, it may indicate an infection spreading into the facial spaces, so it is important not to delay diagnosis.
Please share your reports at the earliest, and I will help you with a structured plan forward.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.
Thank you.
