Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My girlfriend has had two episodes of suddenly passing out. During both episodes, she had body twitching, and in the most recent one, she also had a nosebleed. Initially, we thought it might be due to anemia, so she started taking over-the-counter iron and stress supplements, but the episodes have continued. This morning, she passed out again and had twitching along with a nosebleed.
We are very concerned and would like to know what could be causing this issue and what steps should be taken next.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read your query and can understand your concern.
That must have been very frightening for you to witness, and it is completely understandable that you are worried.
Repeated episodes of fainting along with body twitching are not typical of simple anemia (a condition where your blood lacks enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to your body's tissues) or stress, especially when they continue despite supplements. The nosebleed during the most recent episode adds another important warning sign that should not be ignored.
These symptoms can be caused by several conditions, such as:
Seizure activity.
Electrolyte imbalances.
Low blood sugar.
Significant anemia.
Neurological or heart-related problems.
The twitching is particularly concerning, as it may represent seizure-like activity rather than ordinary fainting.
This situation needs urgent medical evaluation. It would be best not to try to manage this at home or wait to see if it happens again.
Please take her to the nearest emergency department as soon as possible, or call for an ambulance if she becomes drowsy, confused, unresponsive, or starts twitching again. Also, if possible, you can bring a list of any medications or supplements she has been taking, as this information will help the doctors assess her properly.
I hope this answers your query.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.
Thank you.
